Dr Paola Boarin is Associate Professor of Architectural Technology and Sustainability at the School of Architecture and Planning of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where she is the co-founder and co-director of the Future Cities Research Hub.

Her research addresses the links between architecture, technology and environment, with a focus on adaptive reuse, sustainable and regenerative design and post-occupancy evaluation of buildings and neighbourhoods. She has extensively worked on the sustainable adaptation and energy retrofit of existing and heritage buildings, on the sustainable regeneration of historic villages and on the development of environmental sustainability assessment tools, particularly for preservation-related interventions on heritage and character buildings.Ā
