A research project led by the FCRC in collaboration with the CCREATE-AGE Research Centre.
It explores how housing can better support people living with dementia (PLwD), focusing especially on the design and retrofit of indoor daylit environments to enhance well-being, independence, and quality of life.
The project addresses a major gap in New Zealand, where most dementia research has focused on aged residential care—despite 70% of PLwD living in their own homes.
Through co-design workshops, stakeholder engagement, and qualitative research, the project will deliver design guidelines, practical resources, and policy insights to support dementia-friendly housing across Aotearoa.
